4- Escape for a day on the Lérins Islands
Off the bay of Cannes, the Lérins Islands are definitely one of our favourites! The water there is pure blue and heavenly. Every year, as soon as the fine weather arrives, we enjoy rediscovering this sumptuous little archipelago under the song of the cicadas. Located only a few minutes away by boat, access is very simple. The archipelago is made up of two islands: Sainte-Marguerite and Saint-Honorat.
Sainte-Marguerite
Sainte-Marguerite, the largest island of the archipelago is made up of a forest of pines, oaks, eucalyptus and a royal fort. It is particularly famous for its fort which would have housed the Man in the Iron Mask.
Saint-Honorat
Smaller, Saint-Honorat Island is no less pretty. Ocher landscapes, old stones and small coves tinged with the turquoise blue of the sea, these are two of our favorite islands. You can discover a monastery with a very pretty abbey where a community of Cistercian monks still lives today. Much of the island is covered with vineyards and the monks produce excellent wines there that you will be able to taste.
To conclude, the best time to go there is in May/June and September. You will avoid the crowds of tourists and will have no trouble finding a nice little spot to spend the day there. We advise you to plan your small picnic and other drinks, the places to eat being few and relatively expensive.
An unforgettable day for sure. In our opinion, this is one of the best activities to do with the family on the French Riviera !
